To use an LG TV without a remote, press the button on the TV to turn it on and switch inputs. For everything else, open Kliky on a phone on the same Wi‑Fi, pick the TV and accept the prompt on the TV, or type the PIN it shows. A TV that is not on Wi‑Fi has to be brought online first.
- Turn the TV on
- Join the same Wi‑Fi
- Connect from your phone
How to turn on an LG TV without the remote
LG smart TVs run webOS.
LG TVs have one button under the LG logo in the middle of the bottom edge. Press it once to turn the TV on. On some models it is a small joystick that also tilts.
How to change the input on an LG TV without the remote
With the TV on, press the button again to open a small on-screen menu. Short presses move between Power, Input and Volume; a long press selects. Choose Input and step to the HDMI port you need. On joystick models, press to open the menu and tilt to move.
How to change the volume on an LG TV without the remote
Open the same menu with the button and select Volume, then use short presses to change it. On joystick models, tilting left and right changes the volume directly.
Use your phone as the LG remote
- Install Kliky from the App Store or Google Play.
- Connect the phone to the same Wi‑Fi as the TV.
- Pick the TV in the list. Accept the prompt on the TV, or type the PIN it shows.
How to connect an LG TV to Wi‑Fi without the remote
The button alone cannot type a password. Two things work:
- USB mouse. Plug a mouse into the TV. A pointer appears, and you can open Settings › Network › Wi‑Fi Connection and click the letters of the password on the on-screen keyboard.
- Ethernet cable. A wired connection to the router needs no password. Once the TV is online, a phone on the same network can control it.
How to reset an LG TV without the remote
There is no button combination on the TV for a factory reset. Use a USB mouse or a phone remote to open Settings › General › Reset to Initial Settings.
Getting a remote again
For real buttons again, see LG TV remote not working for which replacement fits an LG TV, and the LG TV remote page for the software it runs.
