When SmartThings cannot find a Samsung TV, put the phone and TV on the same Wi‑Fi, turn off VPN, and allow Local Network for SmartThings on iPhone. On the TV, check Device Connect Manager under External Device Manager, then restart the TV. Kliky connects without a Samsung account if you need the TV now.
1. Same network, no VPN
Check the Wi‑Fi name on the phone and under Settings › General › Network › Network Status on the TV. Routers that give the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands different names, mesh systems with a guest network, and VPN apps on the phone are the usual reasons the two cannot see each other.
2. Phone permissions
On iPhone: Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › SmartThings on. On Android: allow Nearby devices and Location for SmartThings. Without these the app cannot scan the network at all.
3. Settings on the TV
- Device Connect Manager (Settings › General › External Device Manager): turn Access Notification on and check your phone is not on the denied list.
- IP Remote (Settings › General › Network › Expert Settings): turn on if your model has it.
- Power On with Mobile in the same menu lets the phone wake the TV.
Then restart the TV: hold the power button on the remote until the TV turns off and back on, or unplug it for a minute.
4. Remove the TV and add it again
In SmartThings open the TV’s card, choose Edit › Delete device, then add it again with the + button while standing near the TV. Make sure the TV is signed in to the same Samsung account as the app.
Use another remote app meanwhile
A Samsung TV accepts more than one remote app. Kliky talks to the TV directly over Wi‑Fi and does not use a Samsung account.
- Install Kliky from the App Store or Google Play.
- Connect the phone to the same Wi‑Fi as the TV.
- Pick the TV in the list and choose Allow on the TV.
If Kliky cannot find the TV either, the problem is the network, and steps 1 and 2 are where to look.
