To turn on a TV without a remote, press the power button on the TV: under the logo on the bottom edge, or on the back near a lower corner. A phone remote such as Kliky can also turn it on if the TV stays on Wi‑Fi in standby, and a console with HDMI‑CEC wakes it too.
Where the power button is
| Brand | Usual place |
|---|---|
| Samsung | Back, lower right corner; or under the center of the front bezel |
| LG | Under the LG logo |
| Sony | Under the Sony logo, or on the back near the lower edge |
| Vizio | Back, lower left or lower right corner |
| TCL | Under the TCL logo |
| Hisense | Under the sensor window, bottom center |
| Roku TVs (onn., Philips, Element…) | Bottom center under the logo, or back near one side |
| Fire TVs (Insignia, Toshiba) | Under the bottom edge |
Run a finger along the bottom edge and the lower back panel; the button is often flush and unmarked. A small light near it usually marks the infrared sensor, which sits next to the button.
Turn the TV on from your phone
A phone can wake a TV only if the TV keeps its network connection while it sleeps. That is a setting, and it has a different name on each platform: Power On with Mobile on Samsung, TV On With Mobile on LG, Remote start on Sony, Fast TV start on Roku TVs. It has to be switched on beforehand, while you still have control.
With it enabled, open the TV in the remote app and press power. Without it, use the button once; after that the phone handles everything else.
Turn the TV on with another device
With HDMI‑CEC, turning on a PlayStation, Xbox, Apple TV, Roku or Fire TV wakes the TV and switches to its input. A smart speaker linked to the TV can do it by voice (“turn on the TV”).
If the TV will not turn on at all
If the button does nothing either, the remote is not the problem. Unplug the TV for a minute, plug it straight into the wall rather than a power strip, and check for a standby light.
