iPhones have a remote in Control Center that works with Apple TV and with AirPlay-compatible smart TVs added to the Home app. For other smart TVs and streaming devices, or for a fuller remote, use an app: Kliky controls Samsung, LG, Roku, Fire TV, Google TV and Apple TV from an iPhone or iPad on the same Wi‑Fi.
- Join the same Wi‑Fi
- Open a remote
- Confirm on the TV
1. The remote built into the iPhone
Apple’s remote lives in Control Center. Apple states that it works with Apple TV and with AirPlay-compatible smart TVs.
- Add the TV to the Home app and assign it to a room.
- Connect the iPhone to the same Wi‑Fi as the TV.
- Open Control Center and tap the remote icon. If it is not there, add it under Settings › Control Center.
- Pick the TV from the list at the top.
It gives you a touch area, Menu, play and volume. What works on a third-party TV depends on that TV’s AirPlay support.
2. A remote app
A dedicated app talks to the TV in its own language, so it offers that TV’s full set of keys, its apps and its inputs.
- Install Kliky from the App Store.
- Connect the iPhone to the same Wi‑Fi as the TV.
- Pick the TV and confirm on the TV if it asks.
On first use, iOS asks for permission to find devices on your local network. Allow it, or the TV will not appear.
If the iPhone cannot find the TV
- Check Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network and enable it for the app.
- Make sure the iPhone is on Wi‑Fi, not mobile data, and on the same network as the TV, not a guest network.
- Turn off VPNs and iCloud Private Relay for the test.
- Restart the TV by unplugging it for a minute.
What an iPhone cannot do
It cannot control a TV that has no network connection: see remote app for a non-smart TV. And it cannot find a TV that is offline: see connect a TV to Wi‑Fi without a remote.
