Put the iPad on the same Wi‑Fi as the TV, install Kliky from the App Store, pick the TV in the list and confirm on the TV. It works with Samsung, LG, Sony, Roku, Fire TV, Google TV, Vizio and Apple TV. For an Apple TV only, the iPad’s Control Center also has Apple’s built-in remote.
- Join the same Wi‑Fi
- Install the app
- Pick the TV
Setting it up
- Connect the iPad to the same Wi‑Fi as the TV.
- Install Kliky from the App Store.
- Open it, allow Local Network access, and pick the TV in the list.
- Confirm on the TV: Allow, or the code it shows, depending on the brand.
An iPad without a cellular plan is fine: the remote only uses your home Wi‑Fi.
When an iPad is the better remote
- A shared remote. It stays in the living room for whoever is watching.
- Large buttons. Easier for anyone who finds a phone screen or a small plastic remote fiddly.
- Typing. Searching and signing in on the iPad keyboard is quicker than on a phone.
- An old iPad. A retired one mounted by the sofa has a second life as the house remote.
What the iPad has built in
Control Center on iPad has the Apple TV Remote, which works with Apple TV and AirPlay-compatible smart TVs for basic navigation. For Roku, Fire TV, Google TV and for a fuller remote on Samsung and LG, you need an app.
If the TV does not appear
Check that the iPad is on the same network as the TV and not on a guest network, turn off any VPN, and allow Local Network for the app under Settings › Privacy & Security. More in remote app can’t find the TV.
