The quickest way is your phone: connect headphones to the phone, open a remote app on the same Wi‑Fi as the Roku and turn on private listening. A Roku Voice Remote Pro has a headphone jack if you prefer the remote, and some newer Roku devices connect to Bluetooth headphones directly.
1. Through your phone
The Roku streams the audio to your phone over Wi‑Fi, and you listen on whatever is connected to the phone, wired or Bluetooth.
- Connect your headphones to your phone.
- Join the same Wi‑Fi as the Roku.
- Open the remote for your Roku in Kliky and turn on private listening. In the official Roku app, tap the headphone icon on the remote screen.
The TV speakers go quiet while it is on. Roku’s own app lets up to four phones listen at once.
2. Through a Roku remote with a headphone jack
The Voice Remote Pro has a headphone jack on its side. Plug in wired headphones and Headphone Mode switches on. Older “enhanced” remotes that came with some Roku 3 and Ultra models have a jack too. The standard Voice Remote and simple remotes do not.
Audio through the remote uses its battery faster, so expect to charge more often.
3. Bluetooth headphones paired with the Roku
Some newer Roku players, Streambars and Roku TVs can pair Bluetooth headphones directly from the settings. Support depends on the model; Roku lists it per device. If yours does not have it, the phone method does the same job.
Sound out of sync or cutting out
- Move the phone and Roku closer to the router. Private listening is sensitive to weak Wi‑Fi.
- Use wired headphones if Bluetooth adds delay.
- Restart the Roku and the app if audio does not start.
- Audio from devices plugged into a Roku TV’s HDMI inputs, such as a console, is not always available for private listening.
