You cannot plug a USB keyboard into a Roku or pair a Bluetooth one with it. Use your phone’s keyboard instead: select the text field on the Roku, open the keyboard in a remote app such as Kliky and type. Voice search covers titles and actors without typing at all.
- Open a remote app
- Select the text field
- Type on your phone
Why you can’t connect a keyboard to a Roku
Roku players and Roku TVs do not support external keyboards or mice, by USB or by Bluetooth. The USB port on a Roku is for media files, and Bluetooth on the models that have it is for audio. This has been true across Roku generations.
1. Type with your phone
- Connect your phone to the same Wi‑Fi as the Roku.
- Open Kliky and pick the Roku.
- On the Roku, select a search or password field.
- Open the keyboard in the app and type.
It works in Roku search, in channel sign-in screens and in the Wi‑Fi password prompt.
2. Search by voice
For titles, actors and channels, speaking is faster than any keyboard. Use the voice button on a Roku voice remote or the microphone in a remote app. Voice does not help with passwords.
3. A real keyboard, through your phone
If you want physical keys, pair a Bluetooth keyboard with your phone or tablet, then type into the remote app. The phone passes the text on to the Roku.
Skip typing on sign-in screens
Many channels show a short code and a web address instead of asking for a password on the TV. Open that address on your phone or computer, sign in there and enter the code. It is quicker and keeps your password off the TV screen.
