To fix an Insignia TV remote, put in fresh batteries, unplug the TV for a minute, and pair the remote again if it has a microphone button. If the Insignia TV is on Wi‑Fi, Kliky on your phone controls it while you sort the remote out.
- Replace the batteries
- Restart the TV
- Pair the remote again
Which Insignia remote do you have?
Insignia Fire TV remote: has an Alexa button at the top, plus TV volume, power and often channel and live TV keys. It is paired by Bluetooth.
Insignia Roku TV remote: purple directional pad, no Alexa button. Most are simple infrared remotes.
Older Insignia sets that are not smart use a plain infrared remote with number keys.
Fixing the Insignia remote
Replace both batteries, then point the remote at your phone’s front camera and press a key. A flash on the phone screen means the remote sends infrared; a voice remote may flash only on Power.
- Insignia Fire TV: hold Home for 10 seconds within about 10 feet of the TV. Full steps: Firestick remote not working.
- Insignia Roku TV: a simple remote has nothing to pair. For a voice remote, hold the pairing button in the battery compartment, or Back + Home, for 5 seconds near the TV. Full steps: Roku remote not working.
If nothing changes, unplug the Insignia TV for a minute. A TV that has frozen ignores a working remote.
The buttons on the Insignia TV itself
Insignia Fire TVs have one Power/Input button, usually under the bottom edge near the middle or one corner. It turns the TV on and off and steps through inputs, and nothing more, so menus need a remote or a phone.
Use your phone as the Insignia remote
- Install Kliky from the App Store or Google Play.
- Connect the phone to the same Wi‑Fi as the TV.
- Pick the TV in the list. An Insignia Fire TV shows a four-digit code to type in; an Insignia Roku TV connects with no code.
An Insignia TV that is offline cannot be reached by a phone: see how to use an Insignia TV without a remote.
Replacing an Insignia remote
For an Insignia Fire TV, Best Buy and Amazon sell the Fire TV remote made for TVs, with channel and input keys; a plain Alexa Voice Remote from a Fire TV Stick also pairs and covers navigation. For an Insignia Roku TV, any Roku TV remote fits.
