To change channels without a remote, use the CH + / − buttons on the TV. On a smart TV on Wi‑Fi, a phone remote such as Kliky has channel keys and a number pad. Cable and satellite channels change on the box, with its own buttons or the provider’s app.
With the buttons on the TV
TVs with a row of buttons have CH + and CH −, usually on the back or under the bottom edge. TVs with one button or a joystick open a small menu when pressed: move to Channel, then press or tilt to step through. Many newer single-button TVs offer only power and input in that menu, and then you need another method.
With your phone
If the TV is a smart TV on your Wi‑Fi, a phone remote has channel keys and digits, so you can type 7‑1 instead of stepping through forty channels.
- Install Kliky from the App Store or Google Play.
- Connect your phone to the same Wi‑Fi as the TV.
- Pick the TV in the list and confirm on the TV if it asks.
On a Roku TV, antenna channels live under the Live TV tile; open it, then use channel up and down.
Cable or satellite box
The TV stays on one input while the box changes channels. Most boxes have channel buttons on the front, and providers offer a remote in their own phone app. A TV remote app cannot change the box’s channel.
No channels at all
A TV moved to a new address, or reset, has an empty channel list until it scans. See scan for channels without a remote.
